Community Language Schools Western Australia

Pathways to Improvement

The aim of the program

The aim of this new program (PIP) is to improve and maintain quality language teaching and learning so that school leaders and their communities can understand how well a school is operating and how it can be even better.

 Benefits for CLS

PIP offers your school
• access to advice and guidance on areas for improvement through a formal assessment process
• a customised professional learning program
• eligibility to apply for OMI funding when your school achieves registration

Most importantly, application of the PIP demonstrates to parents and community members that your community language school is committed to quality, continuous learning and improvement.

PIP explained

PIP supports the development of community language schools through an assessment and evaluation process. It provides community language schools with tools to assess their effectiveness and progress towards best practice in the management and delivery of community language learning.

PIP comprises:

• four stages of development that reflect how community language schools operate
• standards and domains that describe school effectiveness and progress
• information and tools that measure effectiveness and progress, identify areas for improvement, and support schools on their development pathway to improved programs

Stage 1- Registration and 2019 funding

The Office of Multicultural Interests requires that all community language schools achieve Stage 1 -Registration in order to apply for funding in 2019.  Advice and guidance are available through the documents provided here and from a team of expert teachers who are skilled in evaluating language learning programs. If you have questions, email Pathways to Improvement . Please include the name of your school and your telephone number.

Standards Compendium.  Each domain (Teaching and Learning, Leadership and Governance, Community Links) consists of STANDARDS. This compendium explains each standard (What does it mean?),  gives examples of how schools will demonstrate that they have achieved the standard (What does it look like?) and lists how schools will  demonstrate their improvement (Evidence). There is also a glossary of terms that are used through PIP.

Standards Side-by-Side.  As schools improve, they demonstrate achievement of  higher  levels in each standard. Standards Side-by-Side shows these improvements clearly in a single table.
